Old West Division: How Hayson Tasher is Reinventing Private Security

In the Wild West, lawmen weren’t just enforcers—they were protectors, problem solvers, and the last line of defense. They didn’t just uphold the law; they ensured the safety of their communities.

Today, security professionals take on a similar role, standing between chaos and order. Few embody this old-school commitment to safety quite like Hayson Tasher, the founder of Old Patrolman Guard Services (OLDPGS).

Nicknamed the “Old West Division,” OLDPGS isn’t just another security firm. It’s a modern-day protector, offering services that range from private patrols to investigative work. Soon, Tasher’s vision will take the company even further, expanding into armored truck security.

The Journey from Student to Security Mogul

Tasher’s journey into security began in Los Angeles, where he trained under Glen Davis and earned multiple certifications and licenses. However, his true calling became evident in an unexpected place—a Beverly Hills party.

A childhood friend’s brother, JB, asked Tasher to handle security for an event. It was meant to be a one-time favor, but as the night unfolded, Tasher realized he had a knack for the job. His ability to assess risks, stay alert, and maintain control of the situation sparked an idea.

Encouraged by his then-girlfriend and now-wife, Miesha Abner, he decided to take security seriously. With Miesha’s support, Tasher enrolled at Davis Security Training Center obtained his guard license, and laid the foundation for his own company.

In 2018, OLDPGS was officially launched. It wasn’t long before the company secured its first major contract with Sheldon Matthews, a hospitality manager overseeing multiple bars. This contract provided OLDPGS with its first patrol vehicle, allowing the company to establish its presence in the private security industry.

Then, in 2020, the world changed.

Resilience in the Face of Crisis

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, it shut down bars and nightlife, leaving many security firms scrambling to stay afloat. OLDPGS faced an uncertain future.

Rather than succumbing to the crisis, Tasher and his management team pivoted. They shifted their focus to new clients, adapting their services to meet changing security needs. This ability to adjust quickly not only kept OLDPGS alive but also paved the way for future growth.

Tasher’s leadership during this time cemented his reputation as an innovative, hands-on security professional. Unlike many industry leaders, he remains deeply involved in the day-to-day operations, personally overseeing quality control and even standing post in the field when needed.

What’s Next for OLDPGS?

Under Tasher’s leadership, OLDPGS is expanding beyond traditional security. The company’s future includes:

  • Private Investigation Services: OLDPGS is preparing to offer investigative solutions, providing clients with background checks, surveillance, and fraud investigations.
  • Security Products: The company is launching a retail division, featuring essential security gear such as tactical boots, firearms, and pepper spray.
  • Armored Truck Security: Recognizing a growing demand for high-value asset protection, Tasher is planning to introduce armored truck services, strengthening OLDPGS’s position in the security sector.
  • Retail Locations: OLDPGS will soon open physical stores, making security equipment and training resources accessible to professionals and civilians alike.

A Leader Who Leads from the Front

What sets Hayson Tasher apart is his commitment to hands-on leadership. Many security company owners step away from the field once their business gains traction. But Tasher? He remains on the front lines, ensuring high standards and quality control.

This approach not only builds trust with clients but also sets an example for his team of security professionals.

As Tasher puts it: “You have to start somewhere, but you don’t stop there.”

His journey from a single security gig in Beverly Hills to leading one of California’s most ambitious security firms is proof that opportunity, resilience, and hard work can turn a simple idea into a thriving enterprise.
